As a result of legislation to reduce harmful exhaust emissions from vehicles, OBD I and OBD II (On-board diagnose) for motor vehicles in the United States; In Europe, Euro On-board Diagnose (EOBD) standards have begun to be applied.

OBD: On-board diagnose: Indicates that the display is diagnosed. This version, which is applied in European Union, is called EOBD.
The main objective of the OBD and EOBD standards is to detect and diagnose faults that cause the exhaust emissions in the vehicle to increase, primarily and in particular, very quickly, and to inform the driver immediately. With the obd and eobd standards developed for this purpose, it was possible to electronically control all the equipment on the vehicle, to instantaneously diagnose faults, to record them in the fault memory, and to read the faults as required. The eobd lights up the fault lamp when a fault occurs in the motor. At the core of these standards are legislative regulations and limit values issued by countries to reduce harmful exhaust emissions.

OBD-I and OBD-II OBD-1 standards have been mandatory since 1991, gasoline since 1996, and OBD II (OBD-2) standards have been mandatory since 1997. OBD II is the next generation after OBD I standard.

EOBD The European counterpart of OBD-II in the United States is EOBD. Petrol vehicles must meet the standards of the European Union since 2001, diesel passenger cars must meet the EOBD standard from 2004 onwards. With the EOBD standards, all electronic equipment of the vehicle can be self-controlled (by the ECU) on the vehicle, fault conditions can be diagnosed, stored in the fault memory, the drive becomes alarmable with the standard indicator with the indicator lamp. A standard EOBD socket outlet is provided to connect the diagnostic device at a point where the drive can easily reach. With the help of a technical service interface program and a standard EOBD plug-in diagnoser, it is possible to carry out diagnostics, fault reading, fault clearing, component identification, troubleshooting, adaptation, parameterization (actual values ​​reading), component operation test .. on the vehicle.
  With EOBD, diagnostic codes read by diagnostic tool have been standardized for all vehicle manufacturers in the automotive sector. Thus, the meaning of an error code indicates the failure of the same part in all vehicles. The buzzer indicator lights are also standardized for all brand vehicles and have the same meaning.
  
  OBD Socket Where is it? The OBD socket is located at different locations in different brands and models, but the most common locations are: * On the driver's side with the pedals leaning up and looking up (the lower left of the front chest) * When the passenger is leaning up towards the floor (below the right chest) on the front, under the plastic panel, or under the cloak (for example: clio 2).
  The OBD connection socket is usually a place that the driver can reach when his arm is extended under his hand. In this sense, the place can be searched.

Fault codes in EOBD are standardized according to SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)).
   In the EOBD fault code, each letter and digit has a defined counter value. For example, the first letter of the error code: # 1 defines the system type: P .... Power-drive B .... Body C .... Chassis - like a walking limb.
